Welcome!

Hello! My name is James McNamara and welcome to my ePortfolio! I am currently a college student at South Piedmont Community College pursuing an associates in business administration. This ePortfolio is to help others understand who I am as a person. My current hobbies include; basketball, photo editing, photo designing, clothing design, and participating in community service. Designing is my favorite hobby and love creating unique new creations. After college, I hope to get a job as a designer or a co-designer working under a famous designer. My designing inspiration comes from Travis Scott, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. I have been designing using photo editing software for the past 4 years, and have taken 2 design classes in which I learned how to skillfully use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Personal Introduction

EXPERIENCE

Hello! I'm James McNamara and I was born on September 10, 2003. I grew up in Monroe, North Carolina and attended Union Academy and NCVPS (North Carolina Virtual School Program) for High School. Growing up I lived only in Monroe and loved everything outdoors and I always tried to have the best time with my neighbors and friends all the time. A story that has gotten me to where I am today is the day I broke my ankle playing basketball and I lost my ability to walk for six months, so while trying to find things to do to get basketball off my mind, one day I was browsing the internet when I found a photo editing program called PicMonkey. I know the name sounds funny and it might not be the best software, but this was the first photo editing program I ever used, and it brought me more inspiration than I would have ever thought. When I first started designing and editing, I was terrible, I was so bad that I would never let anyone see my first few projects. Though, after about a month I started learning and understanding the program and I started having the confidence to show others my work. Now, in no time I have taken two design classes in which I learned how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and now I’m looking into designing as a career. Looking back, I always think about what could have happened if I never got hurt? That showed me to stop thinking about how terrible a situation you’re placed in is, but to try to see through the silver lining and find something beneficial to do or think about that would have never happened if you never had that terrible experience in the first place. After High School, I moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina and met a bunch of new friends, and started attending my first college semester at South Piedmont Community College Fall 2021. Though it was hard being the new kid for the first time in a long time, I met some friends and got to know the town easily which relieved a lot of stress. School has been very important to me, my entire life. School has always been a place for me to prosper and gain friends while continuing my academic success. I love to be challenged, quarantine challenged me like no other. Though being inside everyday and having to focus on basically everything that does not deal with social skills. It has taught me more about myself that I would have ever learned in a year and a half.

Goals

EDUCATION

Academic

Graduate with a 3.5 or higher weighted GPA.
Graduate with 3 extra courses next semester to graduate earlier.
Finish my Associates in Business by Fall 2022.

Professional

Every 2 weeks I will design on my own time to create more designs to teach myself more about different programs.
I would like to have some of my artwork showcased in an art gallery by the end of 2022.
Be hired as a Graphic Designer out of College.

Personal

Work with Travis Scott or Takashi Murakami.
Create my own brand by 2030.
Make a unique designing style to myself that others will view as visually pleasing.
Be an inspiration.

General Education/Core Skills

Written Communication

Through South Piedmont Community College I have taken a ENG-111 class. In which, I have learned how to properly cite my sources and how to write more efficiently.

"The learner will exchange ideas and information with others using written text in a manner effective and appropriate for the intended audience"

A goal I would set for myself for written communication is to upgrade the way I transition through paragraphs and develop stronger writing skills by graduation. One more goal is to set consistently write with my thoughts rather than allowing my thoughts to over load my writing by graduation.

Oral Communication

Through South Piedmont Community College I am currently taking a COM-231 class. In which, I am learning how to public speak efficiently and present speeches effectively.

"The learner will exchange ideas and information with others using the spoken word in a manner effective and appropriate for the intended audience."

A goal I would set for myself for oral communication is to gain my confidence and work towards being excited to speak publicly by graduation. Another goal is to dictate the words in my head expertly instead of filling in space with “uh” or “um” by graduation

Critical Thinking

Through South Piedmont Community College I have taken a MAT-171 math class and I am currently taking BUS-115, and BUS-139 classes. In my precalculus class I learned how to problem solve using many different methods. In the business classes I am currently taking I am learning how to break down a court case based on direct fact, and how to start a business efficiently.

"The learner will identify, interpret, analyze, or synthesize problems before developing and implementing solutions in a manner effective and appropriate for the intended audience."

A goal I would set for myself for critical thinking is, being able to break down situations that may seem impossible and make it possible by graduation. Also, I would like to improve my split decision making skills by graduation.

Intercultural Competence

Through South Piedmont Community College I have taken a ART-111 class, in which I upgraded my drawing skills. Though I plan to take more classes based on intercultural competence to improve my knowledge.

"The learner will demonstrate cultural awareness and objectivity through critical reflection."

A goal I would set for myself for intercultural competence is to work on my social side and try to understand people rather than push them away by graduation. I would also like to gain experience of infrastructure in working conditions by graduation.

Information Literacy

Through South Piedmont Community College I have taken a ENG-111, in which I have learned how to understand information efficiently and put it to use ethically. 

"The learner will locate, identify, evaluate, use, and disseminate information ethically and responsibility."

A goal I would set for myself for information literacy is, to find time to understand harder text rather than skip through it by graduation. Another goal is to master content to help myself with my future company by graduation.

Program Learning Outcomes

Communication Competence

I shall learn how to control myself and thoughts while talking to an audience. I will learn how to keep the audiences attention by portraying my voice louder. 

"Learners will become effective communicators in their discipline."

A goal I have set for myself is to become more controlled and less nervous. I also have a habit of saying "uh" or "um" while thinking about what I'm going to say, I would love to fix that habit by graduation.

Creative Problem Solving

In general, I consider myself good at creative problem solving. Though, I would like to encourage myself and others to challenge ourselves more often to solve critical or creative problems to aid our planet.

"Learners will apply appropriate techniques to solving problems within their discipline."

A goal I have set is to become more of a proactive thinker and realize the causes and effects of every party involved in a problem. Another goal is that I will get an B at least in my BUS-115 class this semester to propel my problem solving abilities in the form of law.

Understanding the Arts and the Human Experience

Understanding the Arts and the Human Experience is something I want to work on to understand life outside of how I view the world. I would also love to learn about many cultures and compare them to the way our society is ran.

"Learners will demonstrate an understanding of arts and humanities in historical and cultural contexts."

A goal I have set for myself is to visit outside of the United States within the next few years and learn of other cultures and places in comparison to how the United States is ran. I would also like to take more psychological classes in the future because I would enjoy learning about the mind and how it works by graduation.

Social Scientific Literacy

Understanding social scientific literacy is another subject I would like to enhance my skills in. I am going to understand how humans deal with the consequences of their actions and how they react which could be very helpful in a business setting.

"Learners will demonstrate an understanding of social science methodologies in order to explain the consequences of human actions."

A goal that I want to accomplish is to take psychology classes after or before I graduate to understand the behavior of the human brain.
